Breaking the coffee habit. Substitute other than tea, cocoa, or grain coffees?

I have a bad coffee habit (like many of us) and I’m wondering if anyone might suggest an interesting substitute. I’ve used tea, hot cocoa, and the sort of grain wheat/barley substitutes such as Caffix. It would be nice if Walmart would at least carry the grain beverages though.

Yerba Mate is a good sub for a variety of reasons. It has a cousin of caffeine (xanthine) that will give you a similar buzz, but there is no withdrawal if you go a day without it.

I used to get it as a latte with vanilla syrup in it when I had the bucks to blow on it.

Celestial Seasonings makes it as “Morning Thunder” which also has some cinnamon in it I think.

How long Does It take For Lack of Sleep to Be Detrimental to Your Health?

For the past week, I haven’t been able to sleep for no more than four hours a night yet I feel quite energized in the mornings as I wake (after having a coffee, of course), but is this a serious problem to my health?

I just can’t seem to sleep. I think too much, and my mind constantly keeps buzzing-and-buzzing. Thanks.

Yep, this is detrimental to your health. You need at least 7 hours, 8 or 9 is recommended. When you don’t get enough sleep your body overworks itself causing things like, high blood pressure for instance. Also, your chances of getting in an accident are increased. And if you do this for too long, you could have a heart attack. There’s tons of other things that could happen, I just don’t remember all of them. Your body is out of whack when you don’t get enough sleep.

How to clean out my coffee machine?

HI – I am finding my Breville coffee machine a little sluggish (happened a couple of times). That is, the steamer didn’t start dripping when the machine was switched on (should start dripping about a minute after). A friend who is a coffee fanatic told me to use a mixture of lemon juice and ? (forgotten) but I was not willing to waste lemons for this (and the method seemed complex).
Can anyone advise me what to use and how to do it?

I’ve never heard of using lemons, but I have used white vinegar and had very good luck with that. I fill my coffee pot up half way with white vinegar and dump it into the water resevoir and let it run through the pot. I then dump another half of a coffee pot into the water resevoir and just let it sit there for a few minutes to help soak anything that might be inside the resevoir. I then run it through again and if you can do it, turn the coffee machine off half way through the drip process to help clean out the other parts of the machine. I then run 2 or 3 pots of water through the coffee machine to clear out all of the vinegar and gunk and the coffee runs and tastes better.

How do you make coffee without using an automatic coffee maker?

I’m not sure and my husband decided we needed to go camping, and i need my coffee, i just don’t know how to make it over a campfire.

If anyone can help me i’d greatly appriciate it!

Good Instant Coffee

Steps

   1. Put water in a kettle and plug it in. If you do not have a kettle, then put water in a pot and put it on the stove. Or use an immersion heater and warm up the water in a seperate heat-proof mug. The easiest method is to use a microwave.
2. Take the instant coffee and put about one slightly rounded teaspoon (this may vary based upon how strong one likes their coffee) in a mug.
3. Pour the very hot (nearly boiling) water into the mug.
4. Add fresh whole milk, fresh half-and-half, or non-dairy creamer to the coffee if desired. Evaporated milk from a can (undiluted) may also be used, and sugar.
5. Flavorings such as vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or ground cinnamon may be added at this time. If the coffee has been modified, then stir thoroughly until all extra ingredients have been dissolved.

Tips

    * All the additives and measurements vary based on the person so be sure that you know what you like!
* The sugar, creamer, and/or flavorings may be measured into the cup before adding the water.
* Store instant coffee in the freezer in an air-tight container in order to maintain that fresh aroma that it has when you first open the new container.
* If desired, you may use artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. However, be aware that aspartame (Nutrasweet/Equal) breaks down with heat, so it loses sweetness over time. This does not occur with saccharin (Sweet N Low) or sucralose (Splenda).
* You might want to add the milk to the mug before adding the boiling water.

Warnings

    * Even though instant coffee doesn’t contain as much caffeine as brewed coffee, it still has a substantial amount of the drug. Too much caffeine can lead to health problems.
* Making instant coffee means being close to water which is at scalding temperatures. Take reasonable safety precautions when around extremely hot water.

1st you are going to have to strip, then after you have enough dollar bills, take that to Lowe’s & get some varnish stripper. Use that, sand it down, restain & add a coat of polyurethane. Lowes will have directions on how to do those things

Aluminium stove-top espresso maker cleaner?

I read on here recently that washing soda would get deposits off the inside of the water chamber (bottom part) so I tried it.
Didn’t realise until afterwards that my espresso maker is made from aluminium so washing soda shouldn’t be used on it.
The desposits appear to still be there but now it also looks like there’s something else too – either a black coating (that I can’t scrub off) or possible erosion.
Is there anything I can do to rescue it or do I need to buy a new one?
